The East 6th neighborhood is one of my favorite places to hang out in Austin. There is a nice collection of bars and the 6th and Waller food park is great. Across the street from that food park is Via 313 Pizza. This is another food trailer and is located adjacent to the Violet Crown Social Club.
One recent night during bar hopping along E. 6th I was in a pizza mood. I’ve already had and enjoyed Spartan Pizza in the Waller food park a week earlier, so this time I decided to try Via 313. Their specialty is Detroit style pizza, which is a square shaped, thick and crispy crusted pizza and the sauce is on top.
This would be the first true Detroit style I’ve tried. I don’t know if all Detroit style pizza is this good, but if so, I have been missing out. Overall this was the best pizza I’ve had so far in Austin. I really enjoyed the crust which was appropriately thick and chewy in the middle and had a great crispiness on the outer edges. The cheese and pepperoni was also tasty. Via 313 Pizza will now be an actual destination for me instead of just a pit stop during a night out on East 6th.
