Last year there was a drought in Austin so bad the city had to cancel its annual 4th of July fireworks show. Luckily this year the weather has been a little more cooperative (still could use more rain though) so the fireworks were back on. The fireworks took place along Auditorium Shores and was accompanied by a live concert from the Austin Symphony Orchestra. Since Alison works for the ASO, I was able to get VIP access, so I decided to bring my camera along to snap some pics of the firework show.
It was my first time taking pictures of fireworks. I wasn’t sure if it would have beenĀ feasibleĀ to bring a tripod, which is pretty necessary for fireworks photos. But I decided to bring my monopod and remote control and give it a shot. Overall I was pretty pleased with the results. I look forward to shooting fireworks again in the future, and will definitely bring a tripod next time. The fireworks show was just ok though. Definitely not as extravagant as I’m used to in Cincinnati. They only shot fireworks off from one location here. From what I understand they were much better in the past, hopefully they will get back to that level in the future. But it was still a good time, better than no fireworks at all or that 15 second show in San Diego.
