Breaking Bad, Dexter and Walking Dead

FYI – There are spoilers all over this post.

Breaking Bad season premiere

Last night was a night I have been waiting a long time for: the return of Breaking Bad. It’s my 2nd favorite show of all time, right behind The Wire. My third fav is The Sopranos, so I guess I have a thing for tv shows about drugs and organized crime. Anyway, season 4 of Breaking Bad gave me an adrenaline rush like I’ve never felt watching a show. My heart was racing during the last two episodes, I have no idea what its like to be on crystal meth, but you might get the same feeling from watching this show as you do on meth.

I thought the season premiere was pretty solid. Definitely set up a lot for this upcoming season. Walt is cocky and has his God complex back. But the opening scene shows us that sometime in the future he gets a fake identity and buys a big f-cking gun. Will the series end Scarface style? It also appears his cancer will return so equally possible it will be cancer that ends the reign of Walt White. I thought the magnet truck scene at the police station was a bit over the top, like a scene from a caper movie. But it set up Jesse’s “YEAH BITCH…MAGNETS” line, so I’m ok with it. It will be interesting to see if Mike stays with Walt and Jesse or gets the hell out of New Mexico. It always amuses me when Walt acts like a tough guy to Mike. Mike could off Walt whenever he wants to, but he appears to have a soft spot for Jesse and he still kind of needs Walt while the feds are investigating Fring. And speaking of that, at some point Hank will found out Walt was involved with Fring or maybe even finds out Walt is Heisenberg, and I can’t wait for the Hank-Walt faceoff.

Even though I don’t like they are splitting the final season up into two 8 episode seasons, it’s gonna be a great final 16 episodes.

Dexter and Walking Dead previews

Over the weekend Comic Con premiered new footage of the upcoming seasons of Dexter and The Walking Dead. I’ve had love/hate relationships with both of these shows, but I’m looking forward to their returns.

I wasn’t a huge fan of the last season of Dexter. I thought it started off really strong, then fell apart after the premature death of Mos Def’s character. It just became boring and predictable for me, up until the final scene where Deb walks in on Dexter killing Travis. It was about time Deb found out about Dex’s darkside, so I’m now pretty excited for its return, and I hope it gets back to Season 1, 2, or 4 quality. I didn’t hate seasons 5 and 6, its just nowhere near as good as those 3 seasons I mentioned were. This is something Dexter superfans argue with me about, but whatever, I’m sticking to that.

I really enjoyed season 1 of The Walking Dead, hated the first half of season 2, and went back to liking it again the second half of season 2. Does it make me a bad person that I root for Lori and Carl to die every episode? I especially hate those 2 now since it was their fault my guy Shane died. I know those 2 aren’t dying anytime soon, but I’ll be happy when the show returns, especially now they are finally leaving Herschel’s ranch and Rick is back to taking charge and being a badass.
